Ted

I thought this movie might be funny.  I was WRONG!!!  It was horrible!  I can’t believe I wasted almost 2 hours watching this one!  Christy had already warned me about how bad it was, but I didn’t believe her – and I should have!!!  Mark Wahlberg plays an adult who is best friends with his childhood teddy bear that came to life as a result of a wish in his youth and has grown up with him every step of the way.  The teddy bear is an “adult” now, too – he's foul mouthed, he drinks and does drugs, is with different women all the time and isn’t very mature at all.  The jokes just fell flat and felt old and stale, even if they were new!  Maybe the viewer is supposed to be high to enjoy this film?!  You’d almost have to be!!!  I couldn’t wait for it to be over - and it seemed to take forever!!!!!!!!!!!  I’m sorry I wasted my time with this one!!!

Looper

I "think" I liked Looper.  In the year 2074, instead of killing someone, the mob sends them back in time 30 years where someone is waiting to shoot them as soon as they appear.  One of the worst things you can do is let your person escape before shooting them dead – and this happens to Joe – and it also happens that his “target” was himself from 30 years in the future.  What would you do?  Do you shoot your “future self” in that situation?  Old Joe (played by Bruce Willis) was sent back in time because a new dictator was closing "loops" and people were having to kill their future self to close their time travel loop.  And as with most time travel, things can get very confusing!   Young Joe (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) was not really wanting to kill his future self, but not really liking who he had become, either.  There were a lot of different plotlines and stories to keep track of, but it all seemed to kind of "come together" as it got closer to the end.  This movie was pretty intense and wound up being kind of sad for Joe’s character, but it was like he made his decision in the end so that everyone involved would have a better life.  It was strangely "uplifting" in that way....

Pitch Perfect

Pitch Perfect was pretty much what I was expecting.  It was Glee for college.  The movie centers around show choir groups in college who sing a capella.  Beca, (played by Anna Kendrick) is the new girl on campus, looking for a place to fit in.  She finds an all-girl choir group, the Barden Bellas, who’s members are the geeky, to weird, to the crazy girls and everything in between.  This singing comedy showcases each choirs’ singing abilities as they all fight it out at nationals to see who is the best of the best.  Along the way, there is an all-male show choir guys  group who think they are better than the Barden Bellas and are out to prove it.  Throw in some sweet re-mixes, a quirky romance and just the right amount of crazy and you’ve got a movie that isn’t “new” in its’ story . . .but it is worth a night at the movies.

Hope Springs

What can I say about this movie . . .it was icky?  I know – odd word to use but true.  When I saw the previews for this show, I thought it was going to be a comedy about love in your marriage.  What it turned out to be was how to rekindle your sexual intimacy with your partner when your marriage is dry and boring.  Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep play husband and wife of 30 some odd years.  There is no spark of romance and she wants to rekindle what they had, so she drags him to a marriage/sex therapist, (played by Steve Carell), for couples.  From here – it just got weird!  I don’t really care to see either one of them trying to get it on with each other – even if they are husband and wife.  It was like watching your parents do things you never want to see them do!!!  ICK!  There was no chemistry between the actors and both of them were so pathetic that I didn’t care if they ever got back together!  For me – this movie hit the bottom of the barrel and I will never look at Tommy Lee Jones or Meryl Streep the same way again.  EEEWWWW

Hope Springs

I’m still not quite sure what to think of this movie.  Maybe it was supposed to be like a "therapy session" for couples watching the movie?  Every single scene seemed longer than it should be (like a bad SNL sketch!) and the more uncomfortable they felt with what they were doing, the more uncomfortable I felt!  I don't want to feel all awkward and uncomfortable watching a movie!  And that's how this felt to me!!!  It was like I was there for their most personal, private, awkward moments whether it was discussing their sex life with their therapist, or trying things in the movie theater or trying to find a way to make out without actually touching each other!!!  It was disturbing!  This movie felt like it was never going to end!!!  I thought it was going to be like fun things couples were doing to get their marriage back on track or something - not some incredibly awkward "touching and more for old people" movie!!!  And that's what I was thinking the whole time - that "old" couples might like this or be able to relate to it!!!  I agree with Christy - it WAS icky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lawless

Lawless is an engrossing and engaging movie!  Based on a true story, “The Wettest County in the World,” it tells the story of the Bondurant Brothers and their bootlegging business set in the prohibition-era in the backwoods of Virginia.  This movie told the bloody, cold, and hard life of the bootlegging business and the law men that were out to shut them down.  Shia LaBeauf gives an outstanding performance of Jack, the youngest brother.  Howard, the middle, hot-headed brother is played by Jason Clarke but it’s the oldest brother, Forrest, played by Tom Hardy that is the head and heart of the business.  The movie runs 2 hours in length but the story sucks you in that you don’t mind the time.  It is very violent in parts, but then again, it is based on a true story of a time period where lawlessness probably did rule parts of the country.  I really liked this movie, it kept me on the edge of my seat and I would watch it again.

Premium Rush

This movie was pretty much EXACTLY what I was expecting.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who seems to be in everything lately, plays a Manhattan bike messenger being chased down by a crooked cop while trying to make a delivery.  I have no idea how accurate it portrays real bike messengers, but most of the time, it seemed WAY over the top!  Everything seemed to be trying to kind of make them into some sort of “superheroes” that were almost invincible, didn’t have to follow any laws, and could pretty much do whatever they wanted on the street with almost no consequences.  Don’t get me wrong – it was definitely entertaining!  And I love riding bikes, so it was easy to relate to a lot of scenes.  It was just a little “much” at times and not very realistic overall, but I still liked it!
