I don’t know the last time I’ve had a movie “speak” to me like this one! I’d been waiting for it to come out on DVD
ever since I’d heard about it – and was really curious how Eddie Murphy would
be, since it seemed like he has been going further and further downhill with
every movie he’d done lately. Set in
1965, he plays Henry Church, a man who has been hired to cook and take care of
a mother that is battling cancer and her 10-year old daughter, Charlie. What was originally intended to be a 6-month
job turned into a much longer time than any of them had anticipated. Whether he was trying to or not, he became a
father figure to Charlie and helped her navigate through life when she really
didn’t have anyone else, forming an amazing bond for both of them. This was such an incredible, emotional
feel-good story that I can’t wait until I get to watch it again – even though
I’ve already seen it twice!
